Do You Use Unordered Lists in Navs?

When making your navigation/menus in your websites do you use unordered list items? The chances are you do. It may come as a shock but there are many, many, developers out there who shun this and go a different route!

Before, we’d use just <ul><li> and style away at it. Then came the nav tag and our navigation looked similar to this:

<nav id="topnav">  <ul>
    <li><a href="#">Home</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">About</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Products</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">Contact</a></li>
  </ul>
</nav>

I’ve also seen it done this way:

 <nav id=”topnav”>

  <a href="#">Home</a>
  <a href="#">About</a>
  <a href="#">Clients</a>
  <a href="#">Contact Us</a>

</nav>
Which option do you prefer and why?
