Announcing MTG Database, My Open Source Project

For the past couple of months I’ve been working on a project that I’m now opening up for development by the open source community.
First, some back story. My youngest daughter and I got involved in Magic The Gathering last year. Having an unnatural obsession with organizing and cataloging things, I wanted a convenient way to sort and track our cards. What’s more, I wanted to be able to quickly do it on a mobile device like my phone or tablet.

Now, I know there are some well established ways for sorting and tracking your cards and decks. None of them are mobile friendly sites though. And yes, I know there are mobile apps out there, mainly iOS. The Android ones I tried weren’t that great.

I wanted to build a app that would work across platforms, be quick and easy to use, and easy to maintain.

Short term goals would be to get more of the basic features up and running.

Long term goals would be to integrate social features into the app.

The github repo contains the app as well as Vagrant/Puppet to make it easy to run on your local machine. It’s built using Laravel 4 and Foundation 5.

You can see the app running, create an account, even create decks and add cards to decks right now. See the app by clicking here.

I think the app has a lot of potential and would love to see where the community can take it!
